The Art Practice
Mixed-media works by the founder of SEMRĀ.
Before jewelry, there was art. The same eye that designs SEMRĀ's collections — trained at the Art Students League of New York in painting, sculpture, and mixed media — continues to create independent work.
These pieces explore material and meaning through a different lens: embroidery, textile, found objects, and unconventional surfaces. They share DNA with the jewelry — the attention to craft, the refusal of trends, the quiet confidence — but exist in their own space.

"Conflict-Free Woman"
Mixed media on canvas
Embroidery, textile, found materials · 2024
A meditation on value, labor, and the stories we embed in objects. The title references the language of the diamond industry — and questions what "conflict-free" really means when applied to women's bodies, women's work, women's worth.

On Material and Meaning
Every work begins with a question about material — what it holds, what it hides, what it reveals through time and touch. The needle and thread carry the same weight as a jeweler's tools: precision, patience, the slow accumulation of intention. These works are not separate from the jewelry practice. They are its foundation.
